Dr. Alejandro López began his surgical career in Guadalajara, where he completed an intensive General Surgery residency at Mexico's National Medical Center (IMSS). Driven to specialize in obesity treatment, he pursued advanced fellowship training in laparoscopic, robotic, and esophageal techniques at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, mentored by renowned surgeon Dr. Philippe Donahue.
Since 2005 he has performed over 20,000 bariatric procedures, including primary sleeves, gastric bypasses, duodenal switches, and complex revision surgeries. Beyond operating, he trains other bariatric surgeons across Latin America and contributes peer-reviewed research to international surgical journals — a level of academic engagement rare among private practice surgeons.
