Gastric Bypass FAQ
How Much Weight Will I Lose?
The amount of weight you lose depends on your lifestyle habits after your surgery. On average, gastric bypass patients lose around 70% of their excess weight.
How Long is Recovery?
Recovery varies for each patient, but typically you'll start to have more energy at around the three-week mark and your stomach will heal after six to eight weeks.
Will I Have Scarring?
Thanks to our minimally invasive technique, minimal scarring is present following gastric bypass surgery. The incisions we make are less than a centimeter in length.
How Much Food Can My Stomach Hold Post-Surgery?
Gastric bypass surgery reduces the size of your stomach to hold about one ounce of food. A normal stomach can hold about three pints.
Are There Risks?
Any surgery will come with a set of risks. Our board-certified surgeons operate out of certified hospitals and use state-of-the-art techniques and technology to perform surgeries in the utmost safety.
"I'm down 155 pounds in 6 months."
"My results are more than I imagined was possible. I'm down 155 pounds in 6 months. I went to an annual screening that my employer requires and the numbers were the best in 30 years. The staff was professional and efficient 6 months ago as well. My biggest regret is that I waited so long to get the surgery!" David Alexander, 2021
Other Weight Loss Surgeries
Gastric Sleeve
The gastric sleeve procedure, otherwise known as a sleeve gastrectomy, is similar to gastric bypass since it reduces the size of the stomach. However, a gastric sleeve surgery permanently removes part of the stomach instead of simply dividing it.
Duodenal Switch
The duodenal switch procedure is a combination of the gastric sleeve and gastric bypass procedures. The stomach is reduced with a gastric sleeve surgery and connected directly to the lower third of the small intestine.
Lap-Band
Lap-Band surgery is the only reversible option among bariatric surgeries. It involves placing an adjustable silicone ring around the stomach to reduce its capacity. If it is unsuccessful, this surgery can be converted to a sleeve gastrectomy or other bariatric surgery.
